Coming as this does, from Irish Rail's heritage officer (Gregg Ryan), to have as fundamental a mistake as the ((gauge issue|Irish Railway Gauge)) in the first chapter
is unforgiveable. To continue this in Chapter 3 with the following statement:
"...it was not until 1 September 1877 that a line was built from Amien's Street through Glasnevin and Cabra and under the Phoenix Park to connect the GNR with the
GS&WR."
makes you wonder. The exact history is too complex to repeat in a book review. Suffice to say that this is not it.
There are a number on interesting photographs in the book, many of a built heritage nature. Overall, the book gives a potted history of Ireland's railways, not directly
related to the title, but is let down by the fundamental errors noted above.
